BEHIND THE WORK: A CASE STUDY
The business behind the creative.
How I built a healthier business & turned it profitable in just 6 months.
-
I partnered with an independent creative production company during a period of financial and operational challenges that often come along with rapid growth.
The creative work wasn't the problem. The business needed better visibility into its finances, more intentional resource planning, and stronger systems to support sustainable growth.
My role extended across production, finance, legal, and business operations.
I developed a weekly financial tracking system to help leadership understand performance, evaluate cash flow, and make better-informed decisions about client payment terms.
I collaborated with accounting to improve cost allocation and financial reporting, worked alongside legal to strengthen production contracts, and built resource planning tools to evaluate staffing needs and determine when retainers made more sense than project-based engagements.
On the commercial side, I helped develop pricing models, staffing strategies, and financial structures for new business opportunities, including ongoing content series and client retainers.
The outcome?
Within six months, the business returned to profitability, supported by stronger project margins, clearer financial visibility, and more disciplined operational decision-making.
It was a reminder of something I believe pretty strongly: great creative and good business aren't competing priorities. The right infrastructure makes room for both.
